MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After notching a pair of shutout wins last week, redshirt junior goalkeeper
Bailey Herfurth has been named the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
The accolade marks the first Big 12 weekly honor of Herfurth's career, while she is the first Mountaineer to be tabbed the goalkeeper of the week since Kayza Massey earned the award on Oct. 11, 2023.
Making her first two starts of the season, Herfurth tallied seven total saves last week and led WVU to a pair of shutout victories against Duquesne on Aug. 28 and at Dayton on Aug. 31. A native of Northport, New York, Herfurth made crucial saves in both matches to help the WVU defense move its season shutout total to three on the year.
Herfurth co-leads the Big 12 with a 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals-against average. She also is tied for sixth in the league with two solo shutouts this season and is tied for fifth place in shutouts per game (0.50).
Up next, West Virginia returns home to welcome Army to Morgantown on Saturday, Sept. 6. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+. It's WVU's annual Pups at the Pitch match, and fans are invited to bring their dogs out to enjoy an evening of soccer at DDSS.
