West Virginia Begins the 2025-26 Season in Tallahassee

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the 2025-26 season at the Florida State University Invitational on Sept. 26-27, at Morcom Aquatics Center in Tallahassee, Florida.
The meet will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. It's a limited roster for each team competing this weekend, as there are only 12 swimmers and three divers on each team that are allowed to compete during the invite.
The Mountaineers enter their second season under head coach Brent MacDonald, following a seventh-place finish by the men's team and a ninth-place finish by the women's team at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships.
West Virginia will face Florida State, Purdue and Tampa on the men's side. The Mountaineers will take on Florida State and Rice on the women's side. Tampa, a Division II power, was runner-up at the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's National Championship after winning the title in 2024.
Florida State had 10 student-athletes compete at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's National Championship. The Seminoles placed 18th overall at the championship, marking their best finish since 2019. Purdue sent six student-athletes to the men's NCAA Championship. The Boilermakers placed 17th overall, making their sixth top 20 finish at the championship since 2015.
The FSU women's swimming and diving team had eight student-athletes compete at the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's National Championship. The Seminoles placed 36th. The Rice women's swimming and diving team placed third at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational last season.
The Mountaineers welcome 15 newcomers on the men's side and 13 newcomers on the women's side after significant roster turnover during the offseason. The men's team diving trio, made up of senior Christian Torres, junior Owen Recker and sophomore Levi Hellmann, returns after a third place finish at the Big 12 Championships.
Recker was the lone Mountaineer to qualify for the NCAA Championships as he became the first male Mountaineer diver to compete since 2022. He competed in the 3-meter and platform competitions.
