MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will embark on its 2025-26 slate starting at the Island Resort Collegiate, hosted by South Dakota State, on Sunday and Monday at Sage Run Golf Club in Bark River, Michigan.
Golfers will hit the links in tee times starting Sunday at 7:30 a.m. CT and will play 36 holes with the final 18 set for Monday. Sage Run is a par-72 course playing at 7,375 yards.
It marks the Mountaineers' first appearance at the event. Joining West Virginia and host South Dakota State will be Miami University, UCF, Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, Saint Mary's, Illinois State, UTEP, Nebraska and Ball State.
The golf team will open its 11th season of competition since the program was reinstated in 2015.
"Every season is a blank slate, but it feels even more so this year with four new players on the roster and new events on the schedule," coach Sean Covich said. "I am excited to see who will step up for us this season. We are playing a lot of golf this fall semester, six tournaments from Michigan to Hawaii. I am hoping we can take advantage of guys playing some great summer tournament golf and rolling right into the fall season."
West Virginia's lineup will consist of senior Kaleb Wilson, junior Harrison Thompson, sophomores Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski and freshman Jack Michael. In addition, senior Westy McCabe will compete as an individual.
"This is a brand-new event for us, but I have heard great things about the tournament and the golf course from several coaches," Covich said. "Getting to different parts of the country to compete on different grass types and different climates helps develop our guys and their skills.
"Kaleb Wilson has been very impressive this summer and when he has returned to campus. I expect him to step up for this team. Getting Harrison Thompson, Westy McCabe, Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski back on the road will continue to get them starts and experience, and all those guys will play vital roles for us this season. Jack Michael, a true freshman from West Virginia, will make his first start. It's always special to have a home state kid wearing the Flying WV. I'm excited to see what he can do this weekend, this season and his career at WVU."
