MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Led by sophomore midfielder Maddie Levy's first career brace, the West Virginia University women's soccer team secured a 3-0 win over Duquesne at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown on Thursday night.
Senior forward Taylor White scored in the third straight contest to put the Mountaineers (2-2) on the board in the 17th minute, before Levy scored in the 24th and 53rd minutes to seal the win for West Virginia. The scores marked the first of Levy's career, while she became the first two-goal scorer for WVU this season. In all, West Virginia has featured a two-goal scorer 132 times in program history.
White was credited with the assist on both of Levy's goals, becoming the first to tally a pair of assists in a game since Annika Leslie on Sept. 26, 2024, at Arizona State. Additionally, sophomore Alexis Ré assisted White's game winner, the fifth of White's career and first this season.
Offensively, West Virginia recorded 20 shots, nine shots on goal and six corner kicks in the match. Duquesne registered five shots, four on goal and a pair of corners. Levy led the offense with four shots, three on goal and the two scores.
The WVU defense recorded its second shutout of the season, as redshirt junior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth earned her first start of the year. She notched four saves in the contest, including a huge stop in the 76th minute after a dangerous Duquesne free kick from just outside the box to salvage the clean sheet.
Of note, Levy and Ré earned their first career starts on Thursday night.
West Virginia now heads back on the road, traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to take on the Flyers on Sunday, Aug. 31. Kickoff at Dayton's Baujan Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
