The quintet bring WVU's all-time total to 117 players chosen in the MLB Draft. WVU has also now had at least one player taken in 12 of the last 13 years and all but four drafts since 1984 and has had multiple players taken in the first-year player draft 11 of the last 12 years, the only exception being the five-round 2020 draft.
It is the second consecutive year that WVU has had at least five players selected in the MLB Draft. Overall, it is just the sixth time that five Mountaineers have gone in a single draft along with 1999, 2001, 2014, and 2019, and 2024.
In three years with West Virginia, Sauve hit .284 with 20 home runs and 97 RBI. He added 29 doubles, a triple, 119 runs scored, and stole 12 bases. Defensively, he threw out 24 would-be base stealers and had a .991 fielding percentage. He is also the first Mountaineer catcher to be drafted since Ivan Gonzalez in 2019.
Sauve was named to the All-Big 12 First Team in 2025 after being an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection as a freshman in 2023. He was also named to the Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team in 2025 and the Tucson Regional All-Tournament Team in 2024. Sauve excelled in the classroom as well by being a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.
In two years with WVU, West hit .298 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI. He also tallied 25 doubles, 81 runs scored, and stole 15 bases. As a senior, West was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and earned a spot on the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team. In 2024, he was an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection
Porco spent three years with the Mountaineers, going 6-2 with a 6.78 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched. He becomes the ninth Mountaineer to be drafted by the Dodgers, tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the most.
Kirn spent just one year in Morgantown but made it count, going 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA as the team's Friday night starter all season long. He struck out 103 batters while walking just 30 in 99.0 innings. His standout season earned him spots on the NCBWA All-America Third Team, the All-Big 12 First Team, the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team, and the NCAA Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team.
In three seasons with West Virginia, King appeared in 134 games, hitting .274 with eight home runs and 61 RBI while adding 79 runs and 22 stolen bases. A standout defensive center fielder, King also had five outfield assists with the Mountaineers while making highlight-reel catches.
