MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A trio of West Virginia University baseball players have been named ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region, as announced by the organization.
Junior
Sam White was named to the first team with redshirt senior
Griffin Kirn and graduate student
Jack Kartsonas earning spots on the second team. White is the 36
th Mountaineer in program history to be named to the first team while Kirn and Kartsonas bring the number of second teamers to 27. It is the third straight season that WVU has had multiple All-Region selections.
White finished the season with a team-high .361 batting average while hitting five home runs and tallying 46 RBI. He also had 17 doubles, 47 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. In his career with WVU, White is hitting .310 with 168 hits, 19 home runs, 33 doubles, 111 RBI and 117 runs scored.
Kirn made 18 appearances on the mound for the Mountaineers with 17 starts. He went 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 99.0 innings pitched, becoming just the 15
th Mountaineer to record 100 strikeouts in a season. He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team as well as the Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team.
Kartsonas appeared in 20 games with nine starts on the mound. He finished the season with a 6-4 record, 3.66 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched. The Pittsburgh native was also named to the All-Big 12 second team.
