MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team dropped the final game of its series to Arizona, 11-4, Sunday at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers fall to 19-3 and 2-2 in the Big 12 while the Wildcats improve to 18-5 and 5-1 in conference play.
Junior
Sam White hit his third home run of the year and drove in two while senior
Jace Rinehart had two hits and two RBI. Seven other players had one hit for West Virginia.
After a scoreless first, Arizona took the lead with a run in the second and added two more in the third.
White clocked a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to get back within one. The Mountaineers took the lead an inning later as Rinehart doubled home a pair of runs.
WVU held onto the lead until the eighth when the Wildcats scored six runs to take control of the contest. Arizona added two more runs in the ninth.
On the mound, junior
Carson Estridge struck out six in 5.0 innings while allowing three runs. Senior
Tyler Hutson took the loss with two runs allowed in 1.2 innings while striking out three.
The Mountaineers will return to Kendrick Family Ballpark on Tuesday when they take on Marshall. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
