MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team played its longest home game in history and second-longest in program history on Friday against Arizona, but ultimately fell, 6-4, in 16 innings at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers fall to 18-2 and 1-1 in the Big 12 while the Wildcats improve to 17-4 and 4-0 in conference play.
 
Arizona scored two runs in the second and third inning to take a 4-0 lead. West Virginia scored one run in the fourth and two in the sixth before tying the game in the ninth.
 
West Virginia pitching tossed 11.0 scoreless innings until Arizona scored two in the top of the 16^th.
 
Freshman Benjamin Hudson threw 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Junior Robby Porco had three strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless innings. Graduate student Jack Kartsonas pitched 1.1 innings with three strikeouts while sophomore Chase Meyer was the tough-luck loser after giving up two runs with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of relief.
 
At the plate, junior Logan Sauve and junior Skylar King each had two RBI in the game. King had three hits, including the game-tying single in the ninth inning.
 
The Mountaineers had runners on in the 11^th, 13^th, 14^th, and 15^th inning, but could not come up with the hit to win the game.
 
The two teams will return on Saturday for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
