MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior right-handed pitcher
Gavin Van Kempen of the West Virginia University baseball team has been named to the NCBWA Preseason All-America Third Team.
Van Kempen is coming off a 2024 season in which he went 7-1 with a 3.14 ERA in 13 appearances, including five starts. He struck out 35 batters in 28.2 innings.
In his career with the Mountaineers, the Castleton, N.Y. native is 10-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 55.0 innings on the mound.
Van Kempen is the 11
th WVU player to be named a preseason All-American and the fourth time in the last five seasons that at least one Mountaineer has earned preseason All-America status from the NCBWA.
The Mountaineers begin the 2025 campaign on Feb. 14, on the road at Jacksonville. The first chance to catch WVU at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark will be on Feb. 25, when the Mountaineers take on Ohio.
