MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
– The West Virginia University golf team shot its lowest round (-12) of the season and lowest round of the tournament in round three at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Henderson, Nevada, on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers jumped six spots to finish in third place in the 15-team field. Only three teams were under par in the final round, led by WVU's 12-under-score. West Virginia shot 296-284-276=856.
Kaleb Wilson was WVU's top finisher, tying for eighth place at 5-under-par with rounds of 72-69-70=211.
Max Green (74-72-66=212) and
Todd Duncan (75-71-66=212) both shot 6-under-par on Wednesday to finish tied for 12
th place at 4-under-par.
Pierce Grieve tied for 42
nd place with rounds of 76-72-74=222 (+6), while
Carson Kammann tied for 61
st place with rounds of 75-73-77=225 (+9).
Ryan Leach competed as an individual and posted rounds of 77-74-76=227 (+11).
"Heck of a final round, really the last 27 holes," coach
Sean Covich said. "Our guys finally made a decision to bring that championship mindset and it paid off. I couldn't be prouder of these guys the way they turned it around."
The Mountaineers will be off until The Johnnie-O at Sea Island at St. Simons Island, Georgia, on March 17-18.
