WVU Ties for Second at Mountaineer Invitational

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team tied for second place by defeating multiple ranked teams in the 19-team field of the 11th Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
West Virginia shot 16-under-par, including -9 in the final round (285-284-279=848), tying with No. 8 Texas Tech. No. 36 Clemson won the event (294-274-276=844) at -20. The Mountaineers downed No. 38 TCU (-9), No. 6 Oklahoma State (-9) and No. 5 Arkansas (-6).
The Mountaineers had four golfers in the top 18, led by Nick Turowski's -5 to tie for fifth place (70-73-68=211). Jack Michael tied for eighth place at -4 with rounds of 74-67-71=212, while Ryan Leach tied for 15th place at -2 (71-70-73=214) and Kaleb Wilson tied for 18th place at Even par (70-74-72=216). Harrison Thompson shot 68 on the final day to tie for 35th place at +8 (76-76-68=220).
Competing as individuals, Westy McCabe shot 67 on the final day and tied for 26th place (75-77-67=219) at +3. Aidan Dortch shot 74-75-72=221 (+5) to tie for 39th place. Brody Burgess shot 67 on Tuesday to tie for 47th place at +6 (78-77-67=222), and Gabe Schmitz shot rounds of 75-77-75=227 (+11).
West Virginia will return to action on April 27-29 at the Big 12 Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
