MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Marcus Caldeira of the West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 MAC Hermann Trophy.
The Mississauga, Ontario native is one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967.
Three men's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 17 after voting by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The 2025 MAC Hermann Trophy winner will then be announced at a press conference at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 9, 2026, followed by a dinner to celebrate all of the 2025 finalists.
Caldeira is the third WVU men's soccer player to be named a semifinalist, joining Jarrod Smith in 2006 and Serigo Ors Navarro in 2024. Caldeira is looking to become the second winner in West Virginia history after women's soccer standout Kadeisha Buchanan won in 2016.
In his final season with the Mountaineers, Caldeira was named the Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 14 goals and recording seven assists. His 35 points were the most by a Mountaineer since Jack Cardosa's 59 in 1973. He was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region First Team.
