
Watters Ranks No. 1 by FloWrestling

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt sophomore Ty Watters of the West Virginia University wrestling team is ranked No. 1 at 157 pounds in the country, according to FloWrestling.
Watters ascended to the top spot in the rankings following a dominant performance at the Mountaineer Quad. He defeated Glenville State's Jimmie Bailes by fall, Princeton's Gavin Hawk by major decision and Appalachian State's Jeremiah Price by fall to remain undefeated on the year.
With victories against Stanford's Daniel Cardenas at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic and against American, Watters is off to a 5-0 start for the 2025-26 season.
Along with Watters, West Virginia is represented by six Mountaineers in the FloWrestling rankings this week. Graduate students Jett Strickenberger (125) and Willie McDougald (149) are No. 9 and No. 23, respectively. Redshirt juniors Brody Conley (174) and Ian Bush (184) are No. 20 and No. 17, respectively, and redshirt freshman Rune Lawrence is No. 27 at 197 pounds.
West Virginia also moved up two spots in the NWCA rankings to No. 18.
The Mountaineers face Rider on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
