MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2025-26 schedule for the West Virginia University wrestling team.
Head coach
Tim Flynn enters his eighth season at the helm of the program after a sixth-place finish at the 2025 Big 12 Championships and tying for 18
th at the NCAA Championships. The top 20 finish for WVU marked the first time since 2004-05 that the Mountaineers have placed in the top 20 at back-to-back NCAA Championships.
Flynn returns three of five NCAA qualifiers from last season, and 2023 NCAA All-American redshirt sophomore
Ty Watters returns following a shortened season last year due to injury. Graduate student
Jett Strickenberger also returns after his Big 12 title at 125 pounds a year ago.
"We are excited for a very challenging schedule," Flynn said. "We have some huge duals, and we compete in the top midseason tournament as well to highlight the year."
West Virginia begins the season at the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia, on Nov. 2. Dual action begins with a trip to Washington, D.C., to face American on Nov. 8.
The first opportunity to see the Mountaineers at home comes on Nov. 16 with the Mountaineer Quad. West Virginia will face Princeton, Appalachian State and Glenville State. The Mountaineers will compete against Rider on Nov. 23, at Hope Coliseum, before competing in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas on Dec. 5-6.
West Virginia returns to dual action against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, before hosting Oklahoma State to begin Big 12 competition on Dec. 14. West Virginia's first opponent of the new year will be a road trip to the southwest as it faces Arizona State on Jan. 9, in Tempe, Arizona, and then California Baptist on Jan. 11, in Walnut, California.
The Backyard Brawl against Pitt returns with the latest edition set for Jan. 16, in Pittsburgh. West Virginia then returns home for three consecutive home matches, starting with a match against Oklahoma on Jan. 18. WVU will battle Wyoming on Saturday, Jan. 24, and wrap up the home slate against Missouri on Feb. 6.
The final three matches of the regular season will be on the road as the Mountaineers face Iowa State on Feb. 13, in Ames, Iowa, and Northern Iowa on Feb. 14, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The final dual of the season takes place against Lock Haven in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, on Jan. 21.
The 2026 Big 12 Championships are in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the BOK Center from March 6-7. The 2026 NCAA Championships are in Cleveland, Ohio, at Rocket Arena from March 19-21.
