
Three Mountaineers Earn Big 12 Weekly Awards

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three student-athletes from the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned Big 12 Conference weekly awards following their performances at the Florida State University Invitational.
Freshman Jake Salcedo was named the Big 12 Men's Newcomer of the Week after he placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:30.02). Freshman Caden Oprandy and freshman Macey Larson each earned honors as well for their performances.

Larson was named Women's Co-Newcomer of the Week after she placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.70), sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.77) and sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.64). She was also part of two relays that placed in the top four. Larson is the first swimmer on the women's team to earn a Big 12 weekly honor since the 2022-23 season.
Oprandy earned Men's Co-Newcomer of the Week after he finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.53).
West Virginia returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, as it hosts the West Virginia State Games at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
