MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team wrapped up an impressive final day in the Bedford Cup at the JTCC Tennis Facility in College Park, Maryland, on Sunday.
In singles play, West Virginia was represented in the final by senior
Mille Haagensen and redshirt junior
Maja Dodik.
Haagensen fell behind early, dropping the first set, 7-5. She rallied to force a tiebreak set after winning, 6-3, in the second set. Haagensen was dominant in the tiebreak set with a 10-4 victory over Howard's Nadia Pegram.
Dodik rallied after losing the first set, 6-3, to take the second set, 6-3. Dodik battled in the tiebreak set but narrowly lost to Delaware State's Lucia Casas Blas, 11-9.
The doubles pairing of Haagensen and freshman
Laura Villanueva Morillo was dominant against George Washington's Vaida Matuseviciute and Madison Lee, 6-1.
In the final, the doubles team of Kucharova and Dodik lost, 6-3.
