
West Virginia to Host Alumni Meet in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team opens the 2024 season with the WVU Alumni Relay Meet on Friday, Aug. 30 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The meet will be held on the Mon and Deckers Rail Trail, with the starting line near the Terra Café. Friday's two-mile relay race is slated to begin tentatively at 7:15 p.m. ET.
The Alumni Relay Meet marks one of ten meets on the West Virginia slate. The Mountaineers will remain on the road for the rest of the season, kicking off with the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 13 in University Park, Pennsylvania. WVU will also compete at the RMU Colonial Invitational on Sept. 14 in Clinton, Pa. at 9 a.m.
Next, the Mountaineers will head to the Live in Lou Classic on Oct. 5 in Louisville, Kentucky. West Virginia then heads back north for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Oct. 12 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
WVU will send split squads to the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, New Jersey and the Wisconsin Pre-National in Madison, Wisconsin on Oct. 18 and 19, respectively.
The Mountaineers begin the post season with the Big 12 Championships on Nov. 1 This year's conference championship will be hosted by Baylor and will take place at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.
Next, West Virginia is slated for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15 which will be hosted by Penn State at the Blue and White Courses in University Park, Pa.
The 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship is set to be held on Nov. 23 and will be hosted by Wisconsin at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis.
The Mountaineers were selected as No. 4 in the Mid-Atlantic Region as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) earlier this week. WVU also received votes (17) in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll.
West Virginia returns star runner, redshirt senior Ceili McCabe to it's 2024 squad after finishing seventh in her heat in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games this summer. McCabe garnishes two All-America Cross Country honors and was named the Big 12 Women's Runner of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
The Mountaineers also return key starters in redshirt freshman Mary Delaney, sophomore Lexi Lamb and redshirt senior Sarah Tait. Additionally, WVU added graduate student transfer Madison Trippett to the squad as well as five freshmen.
