
Mountaineers Open Trip with 94-44 Win over Rome Selects

ROME, Italy – The West Virginia University women's basketball team opened its foreign tour with a 50-point, 94-44, win over Rome Selects on Thursday.
The Mountaineers led the whole way after jumping out to a 21-13 lead in the opening quarter. At halftime, WVU extended its lead to 28 points, 49-21. The Mountaineers limited Rome Selects to just eight points in the second quarter. West Virginia outscored Rome Selects 18-13 in the third quarter and 25-10 in the fourth to cruise to a 50-point win.
Freshman forward Jordan Thomas led the Mountaineers, recording a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. She attacked the glass in the second half, scoring 16 of her points during the final 20 minutes. Junior guard Sydney Shaw added 17 points and senior guard JJ Quinerly chipped in with 12. Freshman guard Destiny Agubata was the final Mountaineer in double figures with 10 points.
Shaw added seven rebounds and five assists as Agubata managed eight boards. Quinerly led the way with seven assists.
The Mountaineers are back on the court on Friday when they take on Naples Selects. The game will be played in Naples, Italy at 12:30 p.m. ET.
