MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University baseball head coach Randy Mazey has been named the 2024 ABCA East Region Coach of the Year, sponsored by ATEC Sports.
It is the third time in Mazey's career that he has received the honor, having also done so in 2017 and 2019. He is the only Mountaineer head coach to be a multi-time recipient as Dale Ramsburg took home the honor in 1994 before Greg Van Zant won in 1996.
In his final season, Mazey led West Virginia to new heights as the Mountaineers reached an NCAA Super Regional for the first time in program history. Overall, WVU finished the season 36-24 which included going 3-0 in the NCAA Tucson Regional.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Mountaineers were in ranked in the Top 25, climbing into the top 15 in multiple polls to end the season.
In 12 seasons with West Virginia, Mazey went 372-274 and was a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year in addition to his regional honors. Overall, in 18 seasons as a head coach, Mazey went 558-434-2.
