
Mountaineers Travel to Penn State for Midweek Contest

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team is back on the road on Wednesday to take on Penn State. First pitch from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park is set for 5:30 p.m.
The game will air on Big Ten Network Plus and can be heard on the Mountaineers Sports Network on all radio affiliates as well as the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.
The Mountaineers are 23-16 overall this season after dropping three games to Texas Tech in Lubbock over the weekend. In the Big 12 WVU sits in second place at 11-7 alongside Oklahoma State and Texas, all of whom are three games behind Oklahoma in the standings.
Junior JJ Wetherholt leads the Mountaineers with a .327 batting average while senior Reed Chumley has a team-high 10 home runs. Junior Kyle West leads the team with 32 RBI while also contributing with nine home runs.
On the mound, freshman Chase Meyer will make his first career start. He is 0-1 on the season with an 8.38 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, freshman Joseph Fredericks leads all Mountaineer relievers with a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched.
Penn State is 19-17 on the season after going 1-2 over the weekend against Michigan State.
The Nittany Lions are top three in the Big Ten in batting average (.306), home runs (54), and slugging percentage (.507). J.T. Marr leads Penn State with a .420 batting average and 12 doubles while Adam Cecere has a team-high 13 home runs.
Mason Butash will get the start on the mound for the Nittany Lions and is currently 1-3 with a 6.59 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched.
