MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – More than 50 former West Virginia University baseball alums, including many members on the 1994 NCAA Tournament team, will be returning to campus for next weekend's annual baseball alumni reunion as part of the Baylor series at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
The Mountaineers and Bears will play a three-game Big 12 series on Friday, April 26, Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28.
Kevin Olkowski, former Mountaineer player and baseball alumni coordinator, said this year's reunion will celebrate the 30
th anniversary of the 1994 NCAA squad, the late Dale Ramsburg's last at WVU before he succumbed to cancer.
The weekend's festivities are highlighted by a Coach Dale Ramsburg bobblehead giveaway at Saturday's game. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive a bobblehead, courtesy of United Bank.
Ramsburg's wife, Carol, and assistant coach, Greg Gilbert, plan on attending the weekend activities.
Led by 13-game winner Ryan Williams and All-American first baseman Mark Landers, West Virginia won the 1994 Atlantic 10 regular season title with a 17-4 record and defeated St. Bonaventure in the conference tournament championship game. However, the Mountaineers were required to win a three-game series against St. Peters to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
WVU also earned an NCAA Tournament victory over Rider to finish the campaign with 40 wins, a school record that lasted 28 years until
Randy Mazey's squad duplicated the feat in 2023.
Alums from other years will also be on hand to see Big 12-leading West Virginia battle Baylor in a key conference series beginning with Friday night's 6:30 p.m. clash.
Saturday's game will get underway at 4 p.m., while first pitch for Sunday's contest is scheduled for 11 a.m.
On Friday, former players, coaches and staff are invited to attend a 4 p.m. pregame rally at Buffalo Wild Wings, across the street from Kendrick Family Ballpark. One of the hospitality suites at the ballpark will also be reserved for WVU baseball alums to watch the game.
Saturday's activities will include a pregame tailgate in the RF parking lot from noon to 3 p.m. before food is served in the right field team room prior to Saturday's 4 p.m. first pitch. Special gifts will be provided to all alums in attendance.
The baseball staff is asking any former players, coaches or staffers still planning to attend to RSVP to director of operations
Joey Cuomo as soon as possible. His email was provided in the invitation that was sent out to all alums.
