
Mountaineers to Open Big 12 Play at Home Against BYU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team plays its first home series of the year this weekend as the Mountaineers host the BYU Cougars for a three-game set to open Big 12 play.
The series gets started on Thursday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday's game will also start at 3 p.m. while Saturday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
The three games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Thursday and Saturday's game will also be available to listen to on the radio on WBKE 98.3 FM/1490 AM in Morgantown. Friday's contest will be available on our regular radio affiliates which can be found here. All three games will also be available to listen to on The Varsity App, WVU Gameday App and WVUSports.com.

The Mountaineers are coming off a four-game series split at Western Kentucky over the weekend, the third split of the season for WVU. Junior Aidan Major led the way to victory on Friday with 7.0 scoreless innings against the Hilltoppers in a 4-0 win. The Mountaineers took game two, 8-3, before falling in the final two games.
Sophomore Sam White hit two home runs in the win on Friday while junior Grant Hussey, sophomore Benjamin Lumsden and junior Kyle West added home runs of their own over the weekend.
The Mountaineer bullpen was stellar over the weekend as it allowed just one unearned run in 17.0 combined innings.
Led by Head Coach Trent Pratt in his third season, BYU is 6-5 in 2024. The Cougars have won four straight games which includes a sweep over Gonzaga and a midweek win at UNLV on Tuesday.
BYU was picked 12th in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, the first season the Cougars are in the conference.
Kuhio Aloy leads BYU with a .342 batting average and three home runs, tied with Cooper Vest for the team lead. Ben Hansen is 2-0 in three starts this season with a 2.25 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
