MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Recent graduate
Maya McCutcheon of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has signed a professional contract with the NC Courage in the NWSL, the club announced on Wednesday.
McCutcheon becomes the 36th professional Mountaineer in program history, after teammate
Kayza Massey signed a professional contract with Stade de Reims in January. McCutcheon signed a one-year contract with the Courage.
A native of Murphy, Texas, McCutcheon arrived at WVU in 2021 after spending two seasons at Oklahoma. During her three seasons with the Mountaineers, she played in every game, starting all 62 matches. She played 4,840 career minutes, including 1,945 as a senior in 2022. Moreover, she logged 90 or more minutes 22 times while at West Virginia.
McCutcheon was elected a two-time co-captain by her teammates and finished her Mountaineer career with six goals and four assists for 16 points at WVU.
A four-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, she graduated in December with her master's degree in sport management.
