MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team is set for senior day on Saturday, Feb. 10, when they welcome Kentucky to the WVU Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building.
The contest will serve as senior day for
Malori Brown,
Tal Engler,
Becca Lamb,
Molly McGhin,
Matt Sanchez and
Mary Tucker. These six seniors will be honored after the match at 2 p.m. ET.
Both the Mountaineers and the Wildcats come into the contest with a perfect 5-0 mark in the Great American Rifle Conference. The winner of Saturday's match will claim the 2024 Regular Season GARC title.
Saturday's contest against Kentucky will be shot in two relays throughout the day. The first relay will begin at 9 a.m. ET. A live scorecard for the matches can be found at

West Virginia (12-0, 5-0 GARC) is 22-13 all-time against Kentucky (8-1, 5-0 GARC), with the series beginning in 1963. The meeting is the first this season between the two programs. WVU dropped the last meeting between the two, falling 4734-4726 on the road. Kentucky claimed the regular-season title with the win.
Last time out, the Mountaineers defeated No. 11 Akron 4739-4696 and No. 13 Navy 4739-4697. The Mountaineer packed the top of the leaderboard, with seven individuals occupying the top 10 spots. Senior
Molly McGhin won the overall with an 1188 (589 SB – 599 AR) and her mark in air rifle was tied for the highest with freshman teammate
Lauri Syrja. Senior
Matt Sanchez posted the best finish in smallbore with a mark of 593.
The winning effort by West Virginia marked the 12th straight ranked team the Mountaineers have defeated to open the season.
WVU holds the top aggregate (4742) and smallbore (2360) average in the nation. West Virginia's average of 2382 in air rifle is second behind TCU.
With a win, the Mountaineers will collect the program's 28
th undefeated regular season and the 15
th GARC regular season title.
