Mountaineers Fall in Overtime to No. 10 Kansas State

Box Score MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The No. 22-ranked West Virginia University women's basketball team fell short on the road to No. 10 Kansas State in overtime, 73-64, inside the Bramlage Coliseum in Kansas.
 
Trailing by two points near the end of regulation, sophomore guard Jordan Harrison gathered an inbound pass from her own foul line. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma native drove all the way to the rim after carving between two defenders, to score as time expired forcing overtime.
 
West Virginia enters the fourth quarter with a six-point advantage but Kansas State controlled play over the final quarter and overtime to pull away from the Mountaineers. Ayoka Lee finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds in the game for Kansas State as WVU never found an answer for her inside presence.
 
The Mountaineers (22-4, 11-4 Big 12) were paced by junior guard JJ Quinerly who finished with 23 points and added five steals and four rebounds. It marked the 13th time this season she has finished with 20-plus points.
 
Senior Kylee Blacksten finished with nine points while Harrison, fifth-year Lauren Fields and junior Kyah Watson each added eight. Harrison and Fields each corralled four steals with Fields also adding a team-leading eight rebounds. Watson finished with seven boards in the game to record her 500th career rebound.
 
Trailing 4-3 after the opening three minutes, West Virginia strung together 10 straight points over six minutes to lead 13-4. Kansas State scored one point at the charity stripe in the final minute as WVU managed an eight-point lead at the break. K-State was 0-of-8 from the floor over the final seven minutes of the quarter.
 
West Virginia forced 10 Wildcat turnovers and collected six steals across the opening 10 minutes.
 
The Mountaineers pushed its lead to 11 in the first minute of the second quarter. Kansas State then took over, scoring eight straight points to pull within three, 18-15, with just over seven minutes to play. KSU leveled the score at 22 before taking a 24-22 advantage with another basket on its next possession with 2:30 to play. WVU scored the final basket of the quarter 20 seconds later, with the teams tied at 24-24 at halftime.
 
Out of the break, WVU and KSU exchanged the lead four times over the first four minutes. WVU led 31-30 at the halfway point. Nearing the end of the frame, Fields and Watson connected from beyond the arc to secure WVU a six-point lead entering the fourth.
 
With the result, West Virginia moves to 18-8 all-time against Kansas State and 8-4 in games played in Manhattan.
 
Next up, West Virginia is back at home on Saturday, Feb. 24, against No. 24 Baylor. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. The matchup marks the third straight AP-ranked team the Mountaineers will face.
 
The contest will be broadcast on Big12 Now on ESPN+ and the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 FM.
