Mountaineers Set for Top 25 Showdown with Sooners

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 24 West Virginia University women's basketball team takes on No. 23 Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 17, inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. Tipoff against the Sooners is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Saturday's matchup with Oklahoma will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WZST-FM, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Fans also can listen to the game on the Mountaineer Sports Network.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Eric Little and Warren Baker on the call. Live stats and game notes will be available on WVUsports.com.
The contest will serve as the annual 'Pink Game,' presented by the WVU Cancer Institute. Fans are encouraged to wear PINK in support of the fight against breast cancer.
Saturday's game is the first and only meeting between the pair this season. Oklahoma comes into the contest in search of its 10th straight win as the OU sits atop the Big 12 standings with a 12-1 conference record. The Mountaineers are second at 10-3 with five games to play.
The meeting marks the 27th all-time meeting between WVU (21-3) and OU (18-6). West Virginia is 10-16 all-time against Oklahoma, including 5-6 in games played in Morgantown. The Mountaineers are looking to win for the first time in five tries against the Sooners dating back to the 2020-21 season.
The Sooners are one of the hottest teams in the country, turning their season around once conference play started. Oklahoma closed out their nonconference schedule with just a 6-5 overall record. During the Sooners' nine game winning streak, Skylar Vann and Payton Verhurst have combined for 32.1 points, 12.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game.
Oklahoma is led in scoring this season by Vann who averages 15.5 points per game. She also leads the team on the glass with 7.0 rebounds this season.
The Mountaineers got back in the win column on Tuesday, Feb. 10, with a 77-52 win over TCU, on the road inside Schollmaier Arena. West Virginia was led in scoring by sophomore guard Jordan Harrison, who finished with 19 points, six, rebounds, four steals and three assists. Harrison has racked up 298 career assists to sit just two away from 300. Junior guard Kyah Watson led the effort on the glass, grabbing eight rebounds. Watson has averaged 9.4 rebounds over her last five contests.
This season, WVU has rattled off win streaks of 13 and seven games while reaching 20 wins the fastest in program history. The seven-game conference streak was the most in Big 12 play since the 2021 season.
Harrison and junior guard JJ Quinerly have combined for 44 double-digit scoring games this season. The pair have also combined to record 147 steals.
Quinerly (19.1), Harrison (13.7) and fifth-year guard Lauren Fields (11.0) continue to pace WVU's offensive effort this season. Quinerly is the fourth-leading scorer per game in the conference while her 458 total points rank second.
The Mountaineers have the top four steals' leaders in the Big 12 with Quinerly (3.2), Harrison (2.9), Fields (2.3) and Watson (2.3). Harrison has racked up 129 assists this season, the second-best in the conference, and is averaging 5.4 per game which leads the Big 12. Watson paces WVU in rebounding, with 6.5 per game.
West Virginia averages 14.4 steals per contest and adds a 9.21 turnover margin which are the best marks in the conference. Additionally, WVU forces 24.2 turnovers per game, the most in the Big 12.
