MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After helping the defense post a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against UCF on Oct. 4, senior defender Annika Leslie of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Earning the first Big 12 nod of her career, Leslie and the Mountaineer back line secured their sixth shutout of the season, as the squad remained unbeaten in Big 12 play. Leslie played all 90 minutes of the match, marking her 10th 90-minute outing this season. Additionally, she and the defense held UCF to just four shots on goal in the contest.
A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Leslie paces WVU with 1,110 minutes played this season, as she has started all 13 matches so far this year. Additionally, she also is tied for second on the team with three assists this season, all of which have come on set pieces.
The Mountaineers now head back on the road for their final two-game road swing of the regular season, first taking on No. 12 TCU on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kickoff at the Horned Frogs' Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
