MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Villanova and Iowa State on Saturday at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
 
"I am really pleased with the results," head coach Vic Riggs said. "We've had some really good training the past few weeks, and today we saw the results from that work. It was a special day for our seniors and I'm glad we came away with three wins for them."
 
The men's swimming and diving team (2-2, 1-0 Big 12) defeated Villanova, 234-66. The women's swimming and diving team (2-3, 1-1 Big 12) defeated Villanova, 173.50-125.50, and beat Iowa State, 191-108.
 
In the diving well, senior Sara Haggerty set a new program record on the women's platform with a final score of 287.85. This feat comes after she set a program record on the women's platform against Pitt on Jan. 13.
 
Overall, West Virginia won 21 events. The men's team won 13 events and the women's team won eight.
 
Senior Danny Berlitz led the men's team, winning two individual events. Berlitz finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:45.64) and the 400-yard individual medley (3:48.60). He also was part of the relay team that won the 200-yard medley (1:28.00).
 
Senior Justin Heimes won the men's 100-yard backstroke (48.73) and placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.25). He was part of the relay team that won the 200-yard medley, and the relay team that won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:04.87) event.
 
In the men's 1,650-yard freestyle, the Mountaineers had the top three swimmers. Senior Ivan Puskovitch won the event with a 15:26.34, senior William Mullen placed second (15:34.22) and freshman Trevor Hudson finished in third (15:58.35).
 
Sophomore Ada Szwabinska led the women's team, winning two individual events. She placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.90) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.60). Szwabinska was part of the relay team that won the 200-yard medley (1:41.37) and the relay team that won the 400-yard freestyle (3:25.09) event.
 
Sophomore Mia Cheatwood won the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.15) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.92). She was part of the relay team that won the 200-yard medley and the relay team that won the 400-yard freestyle event.
 
In the diving well, junior Sarah Krusinski and sophomore Abigail Sullivan placed first and second on the women's 1-meter, respectively. Krusinski finished with a 288.70 and Sullivan scored a 278.10.

Krusinski scored a 288.70 on the women's 3-meter to finish in second place. Sullivan scored a 283.90 to place third.
 
For the men's team, junior Glenn Eloriaga scored a 334.30 on the 3-meter to win the event. Freshman Owen Recker placed second with a 314.65
 
On the 1-meter, Recker took first with a 334.05 while Eloriaga placed second with a 306.55.
 
West Virginia returns to the pool to compete in the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships from Feb. 27-March 2. The championships will take place at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
