MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team finished strong at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Sept. 30.
"We had some great performances today, especially within this environment of competition, as we went up against 110 teams," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "We learned a lot from this experience, and it served as a great teaching moment for the rest of our season."
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Tait finished 14th overall and led the Mountaineers with a time of 20:38.0. Redshirt senior Katherine Dowie followed behind with a career-best time of 20:44.1 and a 19th-place finish.
"Sarah and Katherine did a nice job leading the group, with Tait having herself another very competitive race and Dowie running a lifetime best on this course," Cleary added.
Other scoring runners included freshman Lexi Lamb, freshman Audrey Hall, redshirt senior Mikenna Vanderheyden and redshirt sophomore Aubrie Custer.
The Mountaineers head to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 7, for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational held at Schenley Park. The race is slated for a 10 a.m. ET.
