MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Peyton Hall and sophomore Dylan Kohn of the West Virginia University wrestling team finished in the top eight of their respective weight classes to claim All-America status at the 2023 U23 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio, over the weekend.
This marks the second year in a row that two WVU wrestlers earned All-America honors at this event.
"Anytime that you place at a national level event is a big deal," fifth-year WVU coach Tim Flynn said. "Congratulations to those guys, and ultimately, they have goals outside of college wrestling, so this was a nice step towards making future World teams."
At 163 pounds (74kg), Hall led the way with a fifth-place showing in the U23 Men's Freestyle to earn his second All-America honor in two years. The Chester, West Virginia, native rattled off five straight victories to open the tournament, before defeating Joey Bianchi of Little Rock for a spot in the top five.
Kohn added a seventh-place showing after going 3-2 at 180 pounds (82kg) to earn All-America status in the U23 Men's Greco-Roman, while sophomore Michael Dolan (65kg – 143 pounds) and redshirt freshman Jace Schafer (57kg – 125 pounds) combined for a 8-4 record in the U23 freestyle tournament.
