
Szwabinska Set to Compete at Polish Nationals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman Ada Szwabinska of the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving team is set to compete at the 2023 Polish National Championships from April 26-29.
Szwabinska will compete in the 50 free on Wednesday and 50 breaststroke on Thursday, before wrapping up competition in the 100 free on Saturday.
"Ada finishes the spring for the swimming and diving program at the Polish Nationals. This is an exciting opportunity, and we look forward to seeing her represent our program," said Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs.
At the 2022 Polish Nationals, Szwabinska earned a pair of finals appearances placing ninth overall in the 50 free finals with a time of 25.96 (SCM). In the 100 free finals, she posted a time of 56.81 to finish ninth, before wrapping up competition in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 32.73 to place sixth.
During the 2023 Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, the Olesnica, Poland, native earned three bronze and one silver medal. The first two bronze medals came with the 400 medley relay (3:39.10) and 200 medley relay (1:39.43, new program record) teams consisting of seniors Jacqueline McCutchan and Harna Minezawa and freshman Mia Cheatwood.
The same team swam in the 200 free relay, setting another program record and securing a silver medal, with a time of 1:30.94. The final bronze medal was secured in the 400 free relay with the team consisting of McCutchan, Cheatwood and junior Abby Reardon, finishing with a time of 3:20.04.
Additionally, Szwabinska placed sixth in the women's 50 free, touching the pads in 22.98, before finishing eighth in the 100 free (50.36).
During the 2022-23 season, the freshman secured three individual first-place finishes in the 50 free. The first came at the West Virginia State Games on Oct. 14 – 15 (23:41). At the dual meet against Cincinnati on Oct. 22, Martin added another (23.50), before finishing on top (23.48) against Villanova on Jan. 28.
