Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Radford, 6-1, for its third straight win Saturday evening in Blacksburg, Virginia.
"The girls did a great job today taking care of their matches," said coach
Miha Lisac. "We will continue to build confidence through today's win as we go into our second match of the road trip against a tough Virginia Tech team. We are excited to have another great test tomorrow on the road!"
Saturday's match against the Highlanders began with doubles play.
Michaela Kucharova and
Momoko Nagato claimed the first victory of the day against Radford's Lexi Smolder and Brooke Murphy, 6-0. Sophomore/senior pair
Camilla Bossi and
Ting-Pei Chang then went on to defeat Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Mountaineers.
Redshirt freshman
Maja Dodik and sophomore
Catherine Wassick ended unfinished at No. 3 doubles, 3-4, against Camryn McClure and Ameek Batth.
Moving on to singles play, Bossi, Chang, Kucharova, and Dodik all claimed victories in two sets for the Mountaineers. Nagato clinched the match for West Virginia, defeating Radford's McClure in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Wassick suffered WVU's only loss of the day, as she fell to Murphy, 4-6, 0-6.
