West Virginia Trails Heading into Final Day of WVU Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished the second day of the WVU Invitational at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown on Friday.
West Virginia is in second place with 863 total points. The men's swimming and diving team (1-1, 1-0 Big 12) is placed second with 527 points behind Navy (800.5). The women's swimming and diving team (0-2, 0-1 Big 12) is in second place with 336 points behind Navy (344).
The evening began with the relay team comprised of senior Lilly Culp, sophomores Ada Szwabinska and Mia Cheatwood and freshman Delaney Cox placing second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.57) event. The men's relay team comprised of seniors Joe Schaefer, Justin Heimes and Danny Berlitz and junior Conner McBeth won the 200-yard medley relay (1:27.05).
Freshman Chloe Hickman earned points for the Mountaineers, placing third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:23.12).
Berlitz took first place in the 400-yard individual medley (3:46.53) for his second individual win at the invitational. Senior Roanoke Shirk won the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.42) to give the men's team its second individual victory of the night.
Cheatwood earned the lone individual victory for the women's team, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.46).
The relay team comprised of Shirk, Berlitz, sophomore Max Nielsen and redshirt freshman Christian Simpson wrapped up the night with a victory in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:34.19).
The preliminary round on Saturday will begin at 9:30 a.m. The final round will begin at 5 p.m.
