MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman forward Jordyn Wilson of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named to the 2023 All-Big 12 Freshman Team, as announced by the league on Thursday.
The honor marks the first conference accolade of Wilson's career, while she also becomes WVU's 21st freshman team honoree all-time. Wilson is the first Mountaineer to be named to the all-freshman team since junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran earned the nod in 2021.
Earning her first career start against Iowa State on Sept. 21, Wilson has played in all 18 matches this season and has earned nine starts on the year. She leads all Mountaineer freshmen with 713 minutes of action on the season.
The Olathe, Kansas, native tallied her first career points against Saint Francis on Aug. 20, scoring her first career goal and assisting another in WVU's record-setting 9-0 victory over the Red Flash at the start of the season. She added her second goal of the year in the Oklahoma game on Oct. 5, before assisting Heredia-Beltran's game-winning goal at Kansas on Oct. 15.
With Wilson's honor this year, West Virginia's total number of All-Big 12 accolades moves to 79 all-time since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
WVU now prepares to open competition at the 2023 Big 12 Tournament on Monday, Oct. 23, in Round Rock, Texas. The No. 5 seed, West Virginia will face No. 4 Texas at 12:30 p.m. ET, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
