– The West Virginia University volleyball team (6-7) fell to Texas Tech (12-2) in five sets to open Big 12 Conference play at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Mountaineers came out of the gate strong, taking the first two sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-22, respectively.
West Virginia continued to fight and tied the fourth set at 24. WVU fell in set five and was defeated 3-2.
Fifth-year senior outside hitter
Adrian Ell led the Mountaineers against the Red Raiders with 24 kills and 25.5 points. She was followed by freshman outside hitter
Bailey Miller, who recorded 19 kills and 21 points. Miller also tallied ten digs for her fifth double-double of her freshman campaign.
Redshirt freshman setter
Kamiah Gibson racked up 29 assists in the conference opener and registered 12 digs. Ell also notched 15 assists, good for her fifth double-double of the season.
Freshman middle blocker
Melanie McGann led WVU with six blocks.
Additionally, West Virginia led the match with 62 kills, seven service aces and 91 digs.
