
WVU Concludes Fall Schedule vs. NC State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 5-ranked West Virginia University rifle team closes out its fall schedule on Friday, Nov. 18, as the Mountaineers welcome No. 11 NC State to Morgantown.
Friday's contest against the Wolfpack will be shot in two relays throughout the day. The first relay will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the second relay will follow at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will be shot at the WVU Rifle Range. A live scorecard for the match can be found at ncaarifle.org. Additionally, live targets will be available online, courtesy of MegaLink.
West Virginia (9-1, 4-0 GARC) is 22-0 all-time against NC State (2-3, 1-3 GARC), with the series beginning in 1959. Last season, the Mountaineers defeated then-No. 11 NC State, 4730-4652, on Oct. 17, 2021, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 4725-4649 win over then-No. 14 Army on Nov. 12, at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York. West Virginia claimed both match disciplines, with a 2347 in smallbore and a 2378 in air rifle. Army shot a 2307 in smallbore and a 2342 in air rifle.
The Mountaineers claimed the top nine spots on the individual leaderboard against Army. WVU was led by junior Matt Sanchez, who tied his career high in aggregate score (1183) and set a new career high in smallbore (588). The Tampa, Florida, native also finished with a 595 in air rifle.
WVU ranks No. 4 nationally in aggregate average (4720.334). Additionally, the Mountaineers are No. 3 in the nation in air rifle average (2380.167) and are No. 4 in smallbore average (2340.167).
Senior Mary Tucker continues to lead the squad in aggregate average (1187.333), smallbore average (590) and air rifle average (597.333). The Sarasota, Florida, native is No. 2 nationally in aggregate average, No. 3 in air rifle average and No. 7 in smallbore average.
