Back-to-Back National Champion Rifle Team Announces 2026-27 Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2026-27 rifle schedule.
The regular season features four contests at home and seven on the road. All home regular-season matches will be held at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building or at the Rifle Range.
Additionally, West Virginia will host an NCAA Qualifying match on Feb. 20. The 2026 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships are from Feb. 27-28 and will be hosted by the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The 2026 NCAA Rifle National Championship is set for March 12-13 and is being hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Georgia.
The season opens at home against Mount Aloysius on Sept. 26 before West Virginia travels to West Point, New York, for a pair of matches on Oct. 3-4. The first matchup will count towards the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) standings against Army before concluding the weekend against John Jay and Norwich on Sunday in a neutral-site match.
The Mountaineers continue their road swing with two competitions against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Georgia, on Oct. 17-18. The Mountaineers compete against just Georgia Southern on Saturday before adding UAB to the mix on Sunday. WVU returns to Morgantown to host Memphis in a GARC contest on Oct. 24.
WVU then welcomes several of the nation's top programs for the annual Fall Classic on Nov. 14-15. The two-day event will feature competitors from Kentucky, Nebraska, TCU and Ole Miss. The five teams competing in the event represent the top five finishers in last season's NCAA Championship.
Following the holiday break, West Virginia travels to Alaska for a two-match series against Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 15-16. The first competition will be held at the UAF Range, while the second will be held at the TVSA Range.
The Mountaineers return home to host Navy in another conference matchup on Jan. 23 before traveling to face both Akron on Jan. 30 and Kentucky on Feb. 13, on the road in GARC competitions.
Times for all contests and post-season events will be announced at a later date.
West Virginia finished the 2025-26 season with an 18-1 record, including a 5-0 mark in the GARC. WVU claimed the 2026 GARC Tournament title, good for its conference-best 18th title and fourth straight and also won the regular-season title for the third straight season and the 17th time in program history.
Fresh off its record-setting 21st NCAA National Championship, the West Virginia University rifle team enters the 2026-27 campaign in search of its third straight NCAA title. WVU returns a strong core from last season's national championship squad, highlighted by senior standouts Griffin Lake and Lauri Syrja. Both veterans have years of championship experience and have been key contributors in the Mountaineers' continued run of success. Juniors Ashlyn Blake, Camryn Camp, Jennifer Kocher and Jacob Wisman also return with valuable experience, giving West Virginia one of the most seasoned lineups in collegiate rifle.
The Mountaineers also boast a talented sophomore class that gained experience during the championship run. Oceanne Muller earned national championship experience last season while Jack Ogoreuc and Hana Strakusek are also back for their second seasons. Adding to the roster is freshman Karlie Lynn, who joins the program after a decorated prep career in Pennsylvania.
West Virginia is seeking to win their ninth NCAA National Championship under Hammond after claiming the title the last two seasons. West Virginia returns nine shooters from last year's team and welcomes one newcomer.
