McCabe Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After setting a new course record at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with a 5k time of 16:23.9, redshirt junior Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia cross country team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
McCabe defended her crown at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky with emphasis by winning the race and setting a new 5k course record. The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, native made a statement with her first race of the season, thrashing the previous course record of 16:26.7.
McCabe looks to continue her momentum from last week, as the cross country team heads to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
This Week in Women's Soccer: The Mountaineers return to the road this week, as they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to battle No. 9 TCU on Thursday, Oct. 6 … the match is slated for 8 p.m. ET, at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: West Virginia battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Kansas at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown on Sept. 30 … after ta scoreless in the first half, the visiting Jayhawks took a 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of goals within a minute of one another … however, the Mountaineers (4-3-5, 1-0-2 Big 12) didn't let the KU spark get the best of them, as they fought back with two goals of their own in order to equalize by the 75th-minute mark … junior midfielder AJ Rodriguez brought West Virginia within one in the 62nd minute, before senior midfielder Maya McCutcheon notched her second equalizer of the year at 74:15 … the final box score showed West Virginia taking 18 shots and placing 11 shots on goal, while the Jayhawks took 12 shots and placed four on target … Rodriguez paced the offense with four shots, while McCutcheon placed all three of her attempted shots on frame.
