Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team capped the regular season with a 1-0 win over Kansas State on Thursday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.
In the final regular-season match of the 2022 campaign, the Mountaineers (7-4-7, 4-1-4 Big 12) used a set-piece goal in the 74th minute to top the visiting Wildcats (6-9-3, 2-5-2 Big 12). With the victory, WVU has now won three of the last four matches and is unbeaten in nine of its 10 Big 12 matches.
The contest was scoreless until senior forward/defender
Julianne Vallerand tallied the breakthrough and go-ahead goal at the 73:22 mark. Fifth-year senior defender
Jordan Brewster took a free kick from just above the 18-yard box and snaked a low ball through the K-State defenders to set up Vallerand for a two-touch, tap-in score. The goal was the Terrebonne, Quebec, native's second of the season as well as the 14th of her career, while Brewster's assist marked her first of the season and 11th of her career.
Thursday's final stats showed the Mountaineers leading KSU, 11-7, in shots, including 4-1 in shots on goal. WVU took just a pair of corner kicks in the match, while K-State took one. Senior goalkeeper
Kayza Massey was called on to make one routine save, while Kansas State keeper Alaina Werremeyer saved a trio of West Virginia shots.
With the win, WVU remains unbeaten all time against the Wildcats, improving to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0 in games played in Morgantown.
Brewster made her 96th career start in Thursday's season finale, surpassing Sh'Nia Gordon (2015-18) for the most career starts in program history. The North Canton, Ohio, native has started all 96 matches for which she has been available and has amassed 8,779 career minutes over her five-year career.

Lauren Segalla were recognized following the match for their contributions to the team during their time in the Old Gold and Blue.
West Virginia now prepares to open postseason play at the 2022 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas. The Mountaineers enter tournament play as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5-seed Oklahoma State on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. ET, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
