MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team is back on the road this weekend, as the team travels to Lynchburg, Virginia, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Atlantic Regional from October 1-4.
This year's regional is hosted by Liberty University, with all matches taking place at the Liberty Tennis Complex and Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. Draws and tentative schedules will be posted and updated to the ITA website via PlaySight. Thursday through Sunday will be the main days of competition, with Monday, Oct. 4, serving as a makeup date if needed. Each day is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. ET.
"It's great to be back at Liberty University for the regional tournament," coach Miha Lisac said. "We have some good matches lined up this weekend, and I think the women that are competing this weekend are ready. We're looking forward to using this tournament to grow as a team and individual players."
In Friday's tournament opener, WVU is scheduled to begin in doubles. No.1-seed sophomore Ting-Pei Chang and freshman Camilla Bossi are set to face JMU's Natalie Nikolopoulou and Amanda Nord, while freshmen Kendall Kovick and Michaela Kucharova are scheduled to play Virginia Tech's Annie Clark and Katie Andreini.
To finish West Virginia's doubles play on Friday, junior Penny Hsieh and sophomore Momoko Nagato are set to take on Marshall's Rieke Gillar and Gabrielle Clairotte.
In the singles qualifications bracket, Hsieh is scheduled to face Longwood's Briee Jolliff.
In the main draw of 64 singles, No. 9-seed Kovick is set for a first round match-up against Marshall's Emma Vanderheyden. Nagato is set to square off with VCU's Anja Draskovic, while Chang will face Radford's Camryn McClure.
To round out Friday's main draw contest, Kucharova will play the winner of Radford's Salma Loudili and VT's Semra Aksu.
