MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team continued a strong showing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Atlantic Regional on Saturday, at the Liberty Tennis Complex in Lynchburg, Virginia. Saturday marks the second day of competition for the Mountaineers.

"We competed well across the board today and as a team we've been performing well this weekend," said coach Miha Lisac. "We're looking for another day of good competition tomorrow and I'm looking forward to seeing how the team performs."

Doubles Recap

WVU's doubles continue to shine at the regional tournament. Both pairs saw victories over Virginia Tech.

No.1-seed freshman Camilla Bossi and sophomore Ting-Pei Chang delivered another stellar performance defeating Tech's Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som, 6-3, to open Saturday's doubles play.

Junior Penny Hsieh paired with sophomore Momoko Nagato claimed the matchup against VT's Elizabet Danailova and Sabrina Richtrova, 6-2, to secure the Mountaineers' second doubles victory in the round of 32.

Both WVU pairs advance to quarterfinals. Tomorrow's doubles quarterfinals competition is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Singles Recap

In the main singles draw, No.10-seed Bossi defeated Radford's Malin Falk in two-straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

No.11-seed Nagato kept things rolling in a toe-to-toe contest defeating VT's Dariya Radulova, 6-4, 6-2, while freshman Kucharova battled it out with JMU's Amanda Nord, ultimately keeping the trend alive and serving another win for WVU, 7-6(5), 6-3.

Kovick notched the Mountaineers their seventh and final win of the day. The freshman stumbled in the first set, 4-6, to Liberty's Tiffany Nguyen, Kovick was able to bounce back and claim the second, 6-3. The No.9-seed put away the set over Nguyen, 6-4, to advance to the singles round of 32.

Sophomore Ting-Pei Chang suffered the Mountaineers' lone setback of the day, as she fell to ODU's No.2-seed Alesya Yakubovich. Chang battled throughout the whole match, but Yakubovich ultimately outlasted the sophomore, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Looking Ahead
West Virginia is scheduled to open tomorrow's quarterfinals against UVA and William & Mary. Bossi and Chang are set to square off agaisnt William & Mary's Emma Fernald and Alisia Manolescu, while Nagato and Hsieh will face UVA's No.2-seed Nicole Kiefer and Amber O'Dell.

In the final day of singles play, the Mountaineers advance four athletes to the singles round of 16. No.10-seed Bossi will go toe-to-toe with UVA's No.3-seed Hibah Shaikh, while No.11-seed Nagato faces Tech's Katie Andreini.

No.12-seed Kucharova is scheduled for a matchup with William & Mary's Hedda Gurholt, and No.9-seed Kovick will go toe-to-toe against JMU's No.7-seed Kylie Moulin.
