WVU Opens Big 12 Season Against Iowa State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team opens its Big 12 Conference season on Sunday, March 1, with a matchup against Iowa State at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
"This is exciting having the Big 12 opener at home," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "It'll be a good atmosphere and start to the Big 12 season for us."
First serve against the Cyclones is set for 10 a.m. ET. This marks the first season since 2014 that WVU has opened Big 12 Conference play at home.
West Virginia began its series with Iowa State back in 2009, and the Mountaineers are 1-7 all-time against the Cyclones. The latest matchup between the two teams came last season, with Iowa State taking the win, 2-5, in Urbandale, Iowa. WVU won its first Big 12 Conference match against Iowa State, 4-1, on March 24, 2018, in Morgantown.
Iowa State enters the matchup with a record of 8-3 and are coming off a 4-2 win over in-state rival Iowa on Feb. 28 in Ames. ISU's only losses came from Penn State, 3-4, Alabama, 2-5, and Nebraska, 2-5. Of its eight wins, Iowa State has swept three teams this year, including South Dakota, 4-0, Northern Iowa, 4-0, and Omaha, 7-0.
The Cyclones doubles are led by No. 45 freshmen duo Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh who have five wins on the season when paired together. ISU also opened its Big 12 season last year against the Mountaineers.
