Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team earned its fourth sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Mountaineers defeated Cornell, 4-0, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
 
With the win, West Virginia moves to 7-0 on the season. It marks the Mountaineers' best start to a season since 1986, when WVU began the season 12-0.
 
"Obviously, it's good to be back home, to compete at home in our own facility," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "It's good to get a win and continue to build off where we were leading up to this weekend. The match definitely had its ups and downs for us. We had some very good performances starting from the beginning in doubles. We had some that we definitely have to improve upon as well."
 
After falling in the first doubles match from the No. 2 slot, junior Anne-Sophie Courteau and sophomore Kat Lyman secured the Mountaineers' first win of the day, 6-1, to tie the doubles round at 1-1. In the No. 3 slot, senior Christina Jordan and sophomore Nicole Roc secured a 6-4 victory to claim the doubles point and lead Cornell, 1-0.
 
West Virginia began singles play with an early advantage, as senior Sofia Duran won by default in the No. 6 slot.
 
Lyman put WVU up by three in the No. 4 slot, as she defeated Sarah Campbell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Anastasiia Bovolskaia then clinched the match from the No. 2 slot, as she also secured a two-set victory against Fatima El Ashram, 6-3, 6-4.
 
The final three singles matches went unfinished. Courteau led Maria Adiaconitei, 2-6, 6-1, 2-0, in the No. 1 slot, while junior Giovanna Caputo held a slim advantage against Michelle Deng, 7-6 (7-2), 1-1.
 
West Virginia returns to the Summit Tennis Academy on Sunday, March 1, as the Mountaineers open Big 12 play against Iowa State. First serve against the Cyclones is set for 10 a.m. ET.
