Five Career Bests Lead WVU at Penn State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team collected five individual career-best marks in its final regular-season meet of the indoor campaign on Friday, at the Penn State Tune-Up in University Park, Pennsylvania.
The Mountaineers registered a pair of victories to go along with eight top-five finishes in their second visit to the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track this season and 11th since 2014-15. Redshirt sophomore Katherine Dowie and sophomore Myesha Nott secured the wins for WVU, as Dowie took first in the women's mile and Nott finished first in the triple jump. The duo registered career bests in their respective events to earn the victories, while three other Mountaineers also posted career bests at PSU.
West Virginia began the meet in the 400-meter dash, as sophomore Tessa Constantine earned a new personal-best time after she crossed the finish line in 57.55, surpassing her previous career high of 57.82. Next, redshirt freshman Amber Dombrowski also collected a new career-high mark in the 600 meters, finishing second with a time of 1:36.30.
Redshirt sophomore Hayley Jackson then competed in the 800 meters, finishing second in the event after posting a time of 2:08.11, also a new career best. Dowie's win in the mile came next, as she crossed the line in 4:56.56 to earn the victory. Redshirt senior Olivia Hill also competed in the mile, finishing fourth in 5:02.92. Freshman Erica Hegele represented West Virginia in the 60-meter hurdles, taking sixth place after crossing the finish line in 9.43 seconds.
In field events, a pair of Mountaineers competed in the women's pole vault. Sophomore Molly DeBone placed second after reaching a mark of 3.67 meters, while junior Ellie Gardner finished just behind her in third place with a 3.52-meter jump. In the long jump, sophomore Peter-Gay McKenzie claimed third place with a jump of 5.80 meters, and Hegele took seventh after reaching a distance of 4.98 meters.
Up next was Nott's win in the triple jump, as she jumped 12.46 meters to register a new career best. Sophomore Sada Wright closed the day for WVU, competing in the women's weight throw and finishing in sixth place with a throw of 16.32 meters.
The Mountaineers were joined by the host Nittany Lions, along with Lebanon Valley, Messiah, Moravian, Morgan State, Penn State-Brandywine, Penn State-Fayette and Towson in University Park on Friday.
West Virginia returns to competition for the 2020 Big 12 Championship from Feb. 28-29. Iowa State plays host to the conference meet for the first time since 2017-18, with action taking place at the Lied-Recreation Athletic Facility in Ames, Iowa.
