In November 2015, nine public entities, including West Virginia University, committed to collaborate in building a state-of-the-art aquatic and track complex at Mylan Park.
The complex has an eight-lane competition track with a top-of-the-line, Mondo running surface developed by Mondotrack. It also features areas for long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault, as well as a grass infield fully enclosed in netting for events such as the hammer throw, discus throw and javelin throw. Additionally, a surrounding walking track is available to the community for use.
The Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park can seat up to 1,800 spectators, and it provides stadium necessities such as a ticket booth, press box, restrooms, concessions facilities and a state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard and timing system.
The track officially celebrated its opening at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 26, 2018, while the first official meet, the West Virginia Open, took place on March 23, 2019.
Along with WVU and its components, the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust donated $15 million for the special project. Other entities, including the Mylan Park Foundation Board, Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau, Monongalia County Schools, County Commission, City of Westover and Westridge Development also teamed to make this remarkable new facility a reality.
