
Mountaineers Close Regular Season Strong at Penn State Tune Up

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team wrapped up regular-season competition with multiple event victories and podium finishes at the Penn State Tune-Up on Friday in University Park.
WVU was led by a pair of first place finishes, highlighted by Cate Pickering's victory in the 400 meters. Pickering crossed the line in 56.95 to claim the event title, while Ella White followed with a fourth place finish in 58.26. Mae Nelson added a seventh place showing in 59.73, giving the Mountaineers three top seven finishes in the event.
In the field, Annishka McDonald continued her strong indoor campaign with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters.
The Mountaineers opened the meet with strong performances in the 60-meter preliminaries. Sabria Jones placed fourth in 7.75, while Eva Craigie finished fifth in 7.79. Sierra Heisey added a 17th place finish in 8.20.
Olivia Cress delivered a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, clocking an 8.85 to place second.
On the track, Lily Haught earned a podium finish in the 200 meters, placing third with a time of 24.99. Heisey added an eighth place finish in 26.19.
In the middle distance events, Mary Delaney led WVU in the 800 meters with a second place finish in 2:11.22. Aislinn Frazer placed fourth in 2:17.64.
The Mountaineers also turned in a strong showing in the mile, with Ronis Chelangat finishing second in 4:49.39 and Tecla Lokrale close behind in third at 4:49.47. Alyssa Sauro placed eighth (4:56.01), while Eva Rinker finished 13th in 5:07.42.
Craigie added a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.25 meters, while Jones placed fifth at 5.17 meters.
