February 13, 2020 01:44 PM | Gymnastics
NORMAN, Okla. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team concludes its regular-season Big 12 Conference slate at No. 1-ranked Oklahoma, with Texas Woman's University, on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:45 p.m. ET, inside the Lloyd Noble Center, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Friday's meet will air regionally on FOX Sports Oklahoma or online through the FOX Sports Go app. Links for live scores and a web stream are available at WVUsports.com.
WVU will start the competition on uneven bars and is 0-2 this season when opening on bars. The squad's complete rotation order is bars, balance beam, floor exercise and vault.
Friday's meet marks the Mountaineers' third straight week on the road, as well as their fourth straight week against multiple opponents. WVU is 5-3 in multi-team meets, 0-2 against ranked teams and 0-4 on the road. It also is the team's second meeting against a Big 12 Conference foe this season, as WVU dropped its Big 12 opener at Iowa State, 195.800-194.500, on Jan. 17.
"We're really excited to be back at a Big 12 competition," Mountaineer coach Jason Butts said. "Oklahoma is an extremely solid team. As long as we do our job, we can look forward to getting a great road score. These guys are already seasoned travelers. They are used to it, which is great, because then you can just focus on the competition and not the travel aspect."
Looking for their first conference regular-season win since 2017, the Mountaineers are 1-18 all-time against the Sooners. OU earned two wins over WVU last season, including a 197.575-195.600 victory at the 2019 Big 12 Gymnastics Championships on March 23, in Norman, Oklahoma, en route to its eighth consecutive conference title.
The Mountaineers and the Pioneers have met only once before, a 188.175-188.150 Mountaineer victory in Denton, Texas, in 1994.
"The team is excited to compete at Oklahoma because it's great gymnastics," Butts said. "It's a chance for them to show off West Virginia on the national stage. Oklahoma is a great environment. They have a great home crowd, and it's always a lot of fun to go there and compete."
West Virginia did not crack the top 25 this week, dropping three spots to No. 29 with a 195.155 season average. The Mountaineers rank as high as No. 27 on uneven bars (48.805 avg.) and No. 28 on floor exercise (48.94 avg.). WVU also moves up one spot to No. 33 on vault (48.765 avg.) and continues to rank No. 35 on balance beam (48.645 avg.).
Freshman Kianna Yancey holds steady inside the top 50 in the all-around and is tied at No. 39 with a season average of 39.15. She also owns four top-25 regional rankings. Yancey comes in at No. 4 in the all-around, her highest event ranking, and is tied at No. 6 on bars (9.83 avg.) and No. 20 on floor (9.817 avg.). She also ranks No. 20 on vault (9.79 avg.).
Last week, West Virginia finished in second place at New Hampshire's quad meet with a 195.075 total on Feb. 8, inside Lundholm Gymnasium, in Durham, New Hampshire. The Mountaineers finished first on vault (48.9), tying their season high, and second on uneven bars (48.75), balance beam (48.65) and floor exercise (48.775).

Ten of the 15 Mountaineers who have competed this season have reached the podium. Yancey paces WVU with nine podium finishes and two event wins, while freshman Abbie Pierson and Cluchey each show four podium finishes and three event wins.
