
Smith Named Student-Athlete of Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a strong performance at the NCAA Regional Championships, sophomore Emerson Smith of the West Virginia University gymnastics team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Smith competed as an individual event specialist on floor exercise at regionals, scoring a 9.9 in the opening rotation of the meet. The total matched her season high and marked her third 9.9 on floor this season. The Westerville, Ohio, native's total was good for a tie for fifth overall among gymnasts competing in the second session.
Three Mountaineers competed as individual event specialists in the Second Round of the NCAA Regionals inside the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. West Virginia's 2026 campaign concluded with the regional meet.
