2020 Outdoor Track Slate Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 12, 2020) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons released the 2020 outdoor track and field schedule on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers' outdoor slate is highlighted by four home meets, hosted at the Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park, now in its second season as WVU's home facility. In all, West Virginia will compete in eight regular-season meets, culminating at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in May.
"We're looking forward to our second year at the new track this spring," Mountaineer coach Sean Cleary said. "The team is excited to be hosting four home meets because there really is nothing like competing at home. I think opening the season on our own track will set us up for a successful season down the stretch."
The 2020 outdoor season opens as the Mountaineers host the inaugural Stan Romanoski Open on Saturday, March 21, in Morgantown. The meet is named in honor of the former men's cross country and track and field head coach from 1958-80. After piloting the programs for nearly 25 years, Romanoski put together a 109-81 cross country record, along with a 70-39-1 track and field record.
West Virginia is set the hit the road for the first time at for the Raleigh Relays, held March 27-28, in Raleigh, North Carolina. From there, WVU will travel across the country to compete in the Stanford Invitational from April 3-4, in Stanford, California.
Following the trip to Stanford, the Mountaineers will make a short trip to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, for the Bison Outdoor Classic from April 10-11. Next up is the Virginia Challenge, West Virginia's final road meet of the season, in Charlottesville, Virginia, from April 17-18.
WVU returns home to host a trio of meets and close the regular season. Up first is the Friends of Track and Field Mountaineer Showcase, presented by State Farm, from April 24-25. The final two meets of the year will be the West Virginia Open on Saturday, May 2, and the Mountaineer Open on Saturday, May 9, at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park.
Kansas State is set to host the 2020 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, from May 15-16, in Manhattan, Kansas. The Mountaineers finished ninth at the conference championship last season. The 2020 NCAA East Preliminary Round is tabbed for May 28-30 in Lexington, Kentucky, while the 2020 NCAA Outdoor Championships are set for June 10-13, in Austin, Texas.
Last season, four Mountaineers represented WVU at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, as Madelin Gardner, Olivia Hill, Hayley Jackson and Shamoyoa McNeil qualified for the regional meet. Gardner advanced the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning Second Team All-America honors after tying for ninth place in the women's pole vault.
The Mountaineers welcomed five newcomers to the squad this season, while 30 members of the team, including two seniors, returned for the 2019-20 campaign.
