Mike Carey Video Conference

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia coach Mike Carey visited with media this afternoon to tip off the start of preseason practice, set to begin on Nov. 15.
Carey said the Mountaineers will play 27 regular season games this year, including a pair of December Big 12 Conference games.
He said this year's non-conference schedule is not yet completed.
West Virginia received a big boost yesterday when the NCAA granted Mississippi State transfer Jayla Hemingway immediate eligibility. The addition of Hemmingway, the former Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, gives Carey 12 available players for the 2020-21 season.
The veteran coach is also hopeful of getting an immediate waiver this year for Georgia Tech transfer Jasmine Carson, a 5-foot-10 guard from Memphis, Tennessee.
West Virginia returns seven players from last year's 17-12 team, including leading scorer Kysre Gondrezick (15.3 ppg.).
